The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society seeks a
developer/designer for its online environmental studies resource.
The resource will be a portal to digitized documents and publications, featuring a large database and hypertextual interpretive exhibitions relating to environmental history and related disciplines.
The developer would work with open-source content management system software (such as Omeka), customize it for various sub-projects, develop plug-ins (for example, for data harvesting, map viewing, etc.) as necessary, develop an attractive, user-friendly interface, assist RCC staff with content management, and ensure compliance with appropriate metadata and accessibility standards. He or she will also communicate frequently with external consultants (such as designers) and external partners (such as archives and libraries) locally as well as internationally. Interest in the humanities and graphic design ability would be an advantage.
This is a flexible, part-time position, available initially for three years starting October 1.
Salary will be equivalent to TV-L public service compensation.
Qualifications
• Hochschulabschluss/degree (FH or university) in IT or related discipline
• Experience with information technology administration and maintenance
• Experience developing or modifying databases, mySQL, PHP
• Experience with in-house user support
• Fluency in English and German
• Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
The Rachel Carson Center is a joint initiative of LMU Munich and the Deutsches Museum.
