Careers in Museums

The museum's institutional framework has changed drastically in recent years: Increasingly understood as autonomous and independent economic institutions, museums now demand new organizational and operational structures and staffing arrangements.

In addition to personnel trained especially for work in museums, terms like budgeting, sponsoring, client management, privatization, cost control, cost reduction, markets and competition are increasingly used within the organizational structure of museums. The education systems in Germany and abroad have responded to these new terms with corresponding degrees and/or continuing or further education programs.

“Career Goals in Museums” (Zielpunkt Museumsarbeit), provided for students by the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, offers information designed to help link the various qualification options with corresponding posts in museums.
