International Exchange

The "Arbeitskreis Volontariat" was founded in 1998 at the German Museums Association as a nationwide representation of young museum professionals at German museums, preservation authorities and memorial places.

The so called "Volontariat" (post as a trainee) is a two-year practical qualification in all aspects of museum work which young academics pass after graduation and often even after the doctor’s degree/PhD in order to follow a career at a museum afterwards.

Exchange of young museum professionals in Europe

The "Arbeitskreis Volontariat" wants to initiate a survey on European level in order to establish a network which enables qualified young museum professionals to work abroad for several weeks.

In today’s Europe it is more and more important for young museum professionals to get an insight in museum work all over Europe in order to get to know different working methods and to establish contacts for cross-national exhibition projects in the future.

If you are interested in supporting our network you can download a questionnaire on this page: Download
