PhD position (m/f/d) in
“Trophic ecology of omnivores”
We are seeking a candidate (m/f/d) with a strong background in food webs and macroecology and a keen interest in studying trophic interactions of mammals under global change. The position is part of the DFG funded project “The role of omnivores for food web rewiring under global change”.
You will investigate how omnivorous mammals adapt their trophic interactions to climate and land-use change and assess the potential consequences for the structure and functioning of terrestrial food webs. The position involves the compilation of a global database of trophic interactions for mammals and analyzing these data along global gradients in climate, primary productivity and human land-use. The position comprises strong quantitative components, e.g., the analyses of trophic interactions and functional traits using macroecological approaches. You will join an international and dynamic working environment at SBiK-F and form part of an interdisciplinary research team.
- Master degree in Ecology or a related field
- Strong interest in the macroecology of trophic interactions and food webs
- Strong quantitative skills and programming skills in R
- Experience with handling large databases and GIS-based spatial analyses is advantageous
- Prior knowledge of mammal taxonomy and ecology is beneficial
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13, 65% part-time position). The contract should start on February 1st 2023 and will be limited to 3 years.
