The Institute Senckenberg am Meer, Wilhelmshaven, invites applications for a PhD position in the RECEIVER Project of the MARUM Excellence cluster ‘The Ocean Floor – Earth´s Uncharted Interface’ at the University of Bremen for a PhD position (m/f/d) Cold-water coral sensitivity (66,6 %)
The aim of the project is to further develop our understanding of the hotly discussed morphologic plasticity of cold-water corals and their different reef-forming potential based on an existing Atlantic-wide sample archive. The project will concentrate on the analysis of morphotype specific internal growth modes to develop a ‘grammar of growth, shape and longevity’. The candidate will also cooperate with a team at MARUM, Bremen, which will conduct a 3D colony shape analysis. Furthermore the successful candidate will assist in developing a geo-referenced database and classification scheme of different morphotypes set in relation to physical forcing factors and biological interactions in contrasting environmental settings.
The anticipated outcome is the modelling basis of cold-water coral reef sensitivity and an ecological fitness check on a global scale.
